A NOTE from Actorsite
We are proud of the fact that Actorsite workshops have ALWAYS been educational events. Casting Directors offer a fine honing of acting and auditioning skills that only they have the insight to provide. Because of this we helped write State Guidelines, along with input from SAG, AFTRA, the Casting Society of America, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office and dozens of actors at all levels. The Labor Commissioner took input from all of these sources and came up with a state-approved curriculum for Casting Director workshops. We have always embraced a similar curriculum and we have always worked hard to make sure that the actors who attend our workshops get the most benefit out of these educational workshops. Because of our diligence, our workshop participants are some of the busiest in Hollywood, having gained the education to attain a distinctive edge in this competitive arena.
We applaud the successes of our participants. When attending an Actorsite workshop: This is not a job interview or audition. The presence of a casting director is neither a guarantee nor a promise of employment. The vast majority of Workshop participants do not receive jobs as a result of meeting Casting Directors at these workshops. The intent of the class is solely educational.
Actors are some of the
most courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more
day-to-day rejection in one year
than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, actors face the financial
challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who
think they should get "real" jobs, and their own fear that they'll
never
work again. Every day they have to ignore the possibility that the
vision to which they have dedicated their lives is a pipe dream. With
every passing
year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the
predictable milestone of normal life-the car, the family, the house,
the nest eggs.
" But they stay true to their dream, in spite of
sacrifices. Why? Because actors are willing to give their entire
lives to a moment- to that line, that laugh, that gesture, or that
interpretation that will stir the audience's soul. Actors are beings
who have tasted life's nectar in that crystal moment when they poured
out their creative spirit and touched another's heart. In that instant,
they were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever
be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that
moment is worth a thousand
lifetimes. "
"Every Problem contains the seeds of opportunity."
"Just what are you waiting for and why are you waiting?!"
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. . . If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them.
